Position Summary
This position reports to the Executive Vice President, Data Science, and is responsible for managing the team that builds and creates stochastic and deterministic models for use across the company, profitability, performance analysis, developing test/control strategies, and training subordinates on data science models and processes. This role is both a technical and managerial role whereby the candidate performs analysis and prepares data as well as serves as a mentor to both analysts and data science managers. Furthermore, this role requires someone who quickly adapts to change and is willing to complete all duties as assigned and requested. This role is a highly technical role. This is an experienced level manager role. Prior experience managing a team is necessary. This role will manage both people and data science processes.
Job Responsibility
- Mange the initiation, development, and implementation of advanced statistical and machine learning models across the customer lifecycle to include customer acquisition, onboarding (operational processes), credit underwriting, product optimization, and collections.
- Manages, mentors, and trains small team of junior modelers with model design, construction, implementation, monitoring, and delivering model results to leadership.
- Monitors and synthesizes new insights from consumer loan portfolio and optimization of profit-based risk management decisions, at all stages of the customer credit life cycle, including (but not limited to) new customer acquisition, underwriting, conversion, collections, and retention.
- Independently manages and designs experiments to enable longer term optimization of decisions, line assignment, while offering terms across our menu of financial products and customer segments.
- Works with multiple external agencies to assess and evaluate new data sources and “Ad-Hoc” analysis as assigned.
- Collaborate with Finance and Business Intelligence to build and improve monitoring of portfolio KPIs and product strategy.

Education Required
Master’s Degree in Quantitative Field (Engineering, Statistics, Mathematics, Economics, or another comparable quantitative field) preferred. Bachelor’s Degree in Quantitative Field (Engineering, Statistics, Mathematics, Economics, or another comparable quantitative field) required.
Experience Required
6 - 8 years of experience working in an analytical role in banking, finance, or retail plus 5 years of supervisory experience managing subordinates.
Knowledge Required
- Prior work experience with R, Python, SQL, or another analytical tool.
- Strong analytical skills and experience with data analytics tools such as SQL, Python, or R
- Direct experience in data quality, ELT, and feature engineering for fraud mitigation or identification
- Knowledge of credit risk & mathematical modeling techniques in the consumer lending space, including use of modeling with machine learning techniques, artificial intelligence, or similar processes
- Strong leadership skills with the ability to manage a team effectively.
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
- Advanced understanding of statistical principles (p-value, etc.).
- Comfortable with solving complex problems, working with computers and technology, and using higher level mathematics.
- Adaptability and flexibility to changing environment; and comfortable working in a dynamic, high volume, fast-paced environment.
- Ability to read, write, evaluate, and apply information.
- Ability to interact professionally and exhibit appropriate social skills.
- Ability to understand and ensure compliance with policies, procedures, and laws governing our industry/business and products.
- Ability to develop and maintain business relationships.
- Ability to quickly learn all technology needed to perform the role.
- Prior coursework in advanced mathematics, computer programming, economics, and operations research would be beneficial.
