Position Summary
This position reports to the Sr. Director, Human Resources and collaborates with HR and Accounting/Finance teams to manage full-cycle, multi-state payroll operations, including payroll tax. Requiring expert knowledge of SuccessFactors platform, the role ensures optimal efficiency of payroll processes while maintaining regulatory compliance. The position oversees all payroll tax activities, provides clear explanations of systems and calculations, and maintains a solution-oriented approach. Success depends on self-motivation and intellectual curiosity to understand the "why" behind payroll systems.
The ideal candidate demonstrates strong initiative to identify improvements, proactively monitors regulatory changes, independently seeks solutions, anticipates challenges, and drives continuous improvement without direction.
Job Responsibility
- Administer, interpret, and communicate pay, time and attendance regulations, and company policies
- Apply comprehensive understanding of payroll compliance requirements including FLSA and multi-state regulations
- Oversee all aspects of payroll tax compliance including federal, state, and local filings, deposits, and reconciliations
- Ensure accurate and timely processing of tax returns, W-2s, and related documents
- Monitor and implement tax law changes affecting payroll processing and reporting
- Manage relationships with tax agencies and respond timely to inquiries
- Lead, develop, and mentor payroll team members, providing guidance and professional development opportunities
- Educate leaders on best practices, including the "why" and "when" of critical tasks

- Lead cross-functional teams to implement new processes and recommend improvements
- Understand system implications of process changes, including impacts to compliance and reporting
- Ensure timely payment of all compensation within required state and local guidelines
- Educate employees and managers on timekeeping best practices
- Collaborate with HR team to ensure compliance with laws and policies
- Conduct regular audits of payroll tax processes
- Develop and maintain documentation of procedures and controls

Education Required
Bachelor’s degree in Business, Accounting, Finance, or 5+ years’ equivalent experience.
Experience Required
Strong experience with payroll systems, preferably SAP SuccessFactors (ADP Tax services a plus), with comprehensive knowledge of multi-state payroll tax requirements and compliance. CPP or FPC certification preferred. Experience with US payroll tax compliance, garnishments, general ledger, and benefit deductions. Proven ability in analyzing processes, planning improvements, and driving changes. Demonstrated experience managing federal, state, and local tax filings and resolving notices. Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and time management skills with ability to work in fast-paced environments, exercise independent judgment, and respond urgently to critical issues. Proactive troubleshooting skills with results-driven approach. Experience leading projects including change management and communications. Strong verbal and written communication skills with attention to detail.
